Background

Shoreline Christian School is a private Christian school with students in Preschool through 12th grade.  The school was founded in 1953 and has been dedicated to resource conservation since it launched its first recycling program in the early 1990s.

Going Green

Shoreline Christian is committed to making the best use of our valuable natural resources, and has worked to conserve across all areas of school operation.

Recycling and Waste Prevention

Since implementing its first program in the early 90s, Shoreline Christian has dramatically expanded the breadth of its recycling efforts. Where once only paper and cardboard were collected, the school has added plastics, cans, bottles, and milk cartons and now diverts 16 cubic yards of material from disposal per month.

Water Conservation

In October 2007, the school replaced all of its toilets (31) and urinal flush valves (19) to low flow alternatives by participating in the Saving Water Partnership’s rebate program. In the first two months after the upgrade, they have saved almost one half of their water usage as compared to their 2006 usage over the same period.

Energy

Shoreline is currently changing their lighting fixtures from magnetic ballasts to electronic ones.  So far, they have changed 35% of their ballasts and in four months they have saved 20% of their electricity costs as compared to their 2006 costs over the same period.
